De briefing
Schetsontwerp voor de voormalige Shell toren aan het IJ in Amsterdam Noord voor Led-producent InventDesign.
De opgave: laat het lichtontwerp aansluiten bij het nieuwe gebruik van de toren: basis voor de creatieve muziek en dance industrie.
De uitdaging
Het ontwerp dong mee in een pitch.
Het eindresultaat
De verlichting benadrukt de iconische vormen van het gebouw (accent op de voet en de hoed) maar is tevens interactief en dynamisch. De vier gevels kunnen als architectonische vorm getoond worden maar ook gebruikt worden als een dynamisch canvas voor lichtkunst, afbeeldingen of teksten. Het lichtconcept is flexibel: ingetogen wanneer gepast, uitbundig wanneer het kan. De toren als stijlvol icoon of als verleidelijk baken.
Het ontwerp heeft de pitch niet gewonnen maar in de gerealiseerde verlichting keren elementen hiervan terug.

The briefing
Sketch design for the former Shell tower at the IJ river bank in Amsterdam on request of LED producer InventDesign.
The assignment: ensure that the lighting design complements the tower’s new destination as a hub for the creative music and dance industries.
The challenge
The design was competing in a pitch.
The result
The design emphasizes the iconic shape of the building (accent to the base and the top) and can be interactive and dynamic as well. The four facades can either be displayed as an architectural form or used as a dynamic canvas for light art, images or texts. It’s a flexible lighting concept: understated when appropriate, exuberant when possible. The tower can appear both as a stylish icon or as a seductive beacon.
The design did not win the pitch, but elements of this appear in the realized lighting.
